At last you can read their memoir extracts and thoughts on hearing the good news from Margie Mitchell and Kate Armstrong.

‘The greatest honour of my life’
Winner, Margie Mitchell: ‘This is the greatest honour of my life. I had to read the email saying I’d won about five times because it just seemed so extraordinary. It was a big surprise. To have this sort of verification that people think you’ve done a good job in your writing and from people you really admire like Lemn Sissay is incredible.’

‘This is a big deal!’
Runner up, Kate Armstrong: ‘I was back skiing properly for the first time since my husband, Matthew, died. I’d been hit by a big wave of grief high up on a serious off-piste route, and I’d dealt with that, and then just as I’d got to the bottom my phone rang and I heard the news I was runner up. I was crying and laughing at the same time – really bittersweet – but there was so much excitement. I was telling everyone I was with ‘listen – this is a big deal!’’
