Bursaries for under represented writers

Our bursary scheme gives under represented writers a free entry to the Bridport Prize competition in any category. In order to support as many writers as possible, applications are limited to one per year, per writer.

Application dates

Bursary applications for our short story, novel, poetry and flash fiction competition OPEN 10 February 2025 and CLOSE 15 April 2025. Please apply using the link at the bottom of this page once bursaries open.

Applications are reviewed in batches on a first-come-first-served basis and may take up to six weeks to process.

Remember!

Our short story, poetry, flash fiction and memoir competitions are open to international applicants, whilst the novel award is open to writers living in Britain and Ireland, British and Irish writers living overseas and writers living in British Overseas Territories.

These bursaries have been generously donated by writers entering our competition who want to support other writers with their work. All applications are considered in the strictest confidence. We don’t require proof of income, your word is good enough.
