Our award is open to talented writers aged 16 to 25 taking early steps in their careers.

£500 prize

The Young Writer Award is worth £500 and will be presented to the highest placed writer in this age group across Poetry, Short Story, Flash Fiction and Novel. The winning piece will feature in our anthology, which counts as being published and opens doors with literary agents and publishers. It also accesses other competitions not available to the public.

Famous younger writers

Caitlin Moran began writing at 13. Susan Hill wrote whilst still at school. Authors writing novels aged 25 and under include Zadie Smith, Truman Capote, Mary Shelley, Jane Austen, F. Scott Fitzgerald.
